Srinagar, Aug 23: Undergraduate admissions in Government Degree Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir rose by around 16 per cent in Phase-I of the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session, with 47,150 students securing admission.
According to the Higher Education Department, the figure is up from around 40,800 admissions recorded during the corresponding phase last year. Of the total admissions, 35,040 students were admitted through direct allocation and 12,110 through the walk-in mode.
Admissions were carried out on the basis of Class 12 merit through the centralised admission portal, which enabled students from across the Union Territory to compete for seats and complete the admission process online.
Director Colleges J&K, Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, said merit remained the basis for allotment of colleges and academic programmes throughout the admission process.
He said 106 government degree colleges recorded an increase in enrollment compared to the previous session, while most others maintained their admission figures.
Phase-II admissions against leftover seats will begin after the declaration of results of the biannual and supplementary higher secondary examinations. The schedule will be notified separately, and eligible candidates have been advised to monitor the admission portal for updates.
