Samba: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Saturday held a public outreach programme at Rajpora Koular in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district, where residents raised issues related to water availability, flood protection, road connectivity and drinking water infrastructure.
During the interaction, people urged the government to adopt long-term measures to address water scarcity and improve management of water resources in the area.
Responding to the concerns, Rana stressed the need for sustainable water conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and efficient utilisation of available resources. He directed concerned officers to prepare a comprehensive plan to address water availability issues and ensure lasting solutions.
Residents also sought strengthening of flood protection works and highlighted damage caused to infrastructure during recent rains and flash floods. They demanded early restoration of damaged roads and other public assets to ensure smooth connectivity.
The public also called for upgradation of the existing water supply network to ensure adequate drinking water and raised issues related to the availability of timber for genuine needs and implementation of the Forest Rights Act.
The minister assured the gathering that genuine demands would be addressed in a phased and time-bound manner. He directed departments to work in coordination for timely completion of developmental projects and asked field officers to ensure effective delivery of government schemes and services.
Senior officers from the Jal Shakti Department, Irrigation and Flood Control, Forest Department and district administration attended the outreach programme.
