Jammu: Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Ahmed Rana on Friday reviewed the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Vikas Yojana (PMVDVY) in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on the formation and functioning of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the scheme.
During the meeting, Rana assessed the financial and physical progress achieved under the programme and reviewed efforts aimed at creating livelihood opportunities for tribal communities through value addition and better utilisation of forest-based resources.
The minister directed officials to accelerate the formation of SHGs and ensure wider coverage of eligible beneficiaries in tribal areas. He stressed the need to identify potential beneficiaries, facilitate their mobilisation and provide institutional and technical support to help SHGs function as sustainable livelihood units.
Rana said the scheme should generate tangible income and employment opportunities for tribal communities, particularly women associated with SHGs.
He also called for closer coordination between the Tribal Affairs Department and the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) to ensure effective implementation and regular monitoring of both physical and financial progress.
The minister sought details of training and capacity-building programmes being conducted for tribal artisans and entrepreneurs, especially in remote areas, and directed officials to address implementation bottlenecks through periodic reviews.
He further asked departments to strengthen market linkages for tribal products at regional and national levels, identify gaps in implementation and submit fresh proposals for areas requiring urgent intervention.
Rana said timely and well-planned initiatives were necessary to strengthen livelihoods, reduce developmental disparities and enhance the impact of the Van Dhan Vikas Yojana across tribal regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
