Srinagar: The Women’s Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Friday held a meeting at the party headquarters here to review preparations for a programme scheduled on September 8 and discuss organisational matters and public issues.
The meeting was chaired by Women’s Wing president and Habba Kadal MLA Shameema Firdous and was attended by district presidents and other office-bearers of the wing. Provincial president of the Women’s Wing, Er Sabiya Qadri, also participated in the meeting.
According to a party statement, participants discussed issues being faced by people in different areas, including the availability of basic amenities, challenges confronting women and public expectations from the government.
Addressing the meeting, Shameema alleged that the elected government was facing obstacles in its functioning and claimed that attempts were being made to undermine the National Conference-led administration. She said the party had received a mandate from the people to govern Jammu and Kashmir and raised concerns over what she described as continued constraints on the functioning of the elected government.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for programmes being organised to mark the death anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and discussed upcoming activities of the Women’s Wing, the statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sabiya Qadri said the party would observe Sheikh Abdullah’s death anniversary on September 8 and highlighted his political legacy and contributions to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, according to the statement.
