BARAMULLA: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar on Thursday laid the foundation stone for an Rs 18 crore road project under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Baramulla district.
The project involves construction and maintenance of the road from L075-Bomina–Harwan–Zaloora to Yamberzaewari and will be executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Roads Development Agency (JKRRDA), Baramulla Division.
According to officials, the project is aimed at providing improved all-weather road connectivity to residents and enhancing access to essential services, markets and economic opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dar said road connectivity plays an important role in rural development by improving access to education, healthcare, markets and employment opportunities. He said the government is focusing on infrastructure development in rural and remote areas to improve connectivity and public services.
The minister also highlighted the tourism potential of the area, stating that improved road infrastructure could facilitate access to local tourist destinations and support economic activities, including entrepreneurship and employment generation.
During his visit, Dar interacted with local residents, who raised issues related to veterinary services, drinking water supply, electricity infrastructure, installation of electric poles and wires, and shortage of teaching staff.
He said the concerns would be taken up with the relevant departments for consideration and resolution in a phased manner. The minister also directed officials to ensure timely execution of the road project while adhering to quality standards and efficient utilisation of public resources.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina, Executive Engineer R&B, and officers from various departments were present on the occasion.
