SHOPIAN: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Shopian has concluded a three-day capacity-building programme on experiential learning in mathematics aimed at strengthening the pedagogical skills of teachers through activity-based and learner-centred teaching approaches.
The programme, held from August 6 to 8, witnessed participation from mathematics teachers from various schools across the district. It focused on equipping educators with innovative classroom practices designed to make mathematics more engaging, practical and accessible for students.
Principal DIET Shopian Neetu Gandotra, who inaugurated the programme, highlighted the importance of experiential learning in improving students’ understanding of mathematical concepts and fostering greater classroom participation.
During the training, teachers were introduced to experiential learning methodologies, learner-centred teaching strategies and practical approaches for explaining mathematical concepts. The sessions encouraged inquiry-based learning, collaboration, critical thinking and the integration of real-life situations into classroom teaching.
Participants also engaged in peer learning and collaborative activities aimed at promoting innovative pedagogical practices and improving learning outcomes in mathematics.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session and certificate distribution ceremony.
As part of the initiative, an interactive session on stress management and mental wellbeing was conducted by Dr Javid Ahmad of the Health and Medical Education Department. The session focused on emotional wellbeing, workplace stress management and healthy coping mechanisms for teachers.
The programme was coordinated by senior DIET faculty members Nayeem Rashid and Abdul Gani Mohand, with support from resource persons Naseer Ahmad Bhat, Abid Hussain Malik, Mubashir Ahmad Bhat, Sajad Ahmad Ahanger and Mohd Yousuf Rather.
