During the meeting, officers presented detailed briefings on district-wise preparedness, security deployments and logistical arrangements being put in place for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

The discussions focused on measures aimed at ensuring the safety of pilgrims and effective management of the yatra routes across Kashmir.

Reviewing the overall security framework, Birdi stressed the need for strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and close coordination among all security and civil agencies involved in the pilgrimage.

He directed officers to remain prepared for any contingency, including operational challenges, natural disasters and other unforeseen situations, through a well-coordinated and swift response mechanism.

Highlighting pilgrim safety as the top priority, the IGP reviewed the deployment strategy and preparedness of Road Opening Parties (ROPs). He directed officers to enhance surveillance, undertake regular area domination exercises and maintain continuous monitoring of highways and vulnerable stretches along the pilgrimage routes.

The officers were also instructed to strengthen night-time security measures and remain alert to prevent any untoward incident.

To improve operational readiness, Birdi directed the field officers to conduct mock drills and regularly test existing SOPs to identify and address any gaps in preparedness.

He further instructed officers to ensure comprehensive security arrangements at all yatra camps, including installation of surveillance systems at key locations and deployment of adequate manpower to regulate pilgrim movement and respond to emergencies.

The meeting also reviewed arrangements being made for Muharram observances across the Kashmir Valley.

The IGP stressed the importance of adequate security measures, effective traffic management and close coordination with the civil administration and other stakeholder agencies to facilitate the peaceful conduct of Muharram processions.

He directed officers to maintain close liaison with organisers, remain vigilant and make all necessary arrangements to ensure public safety and convenience during the observances.

Concluding the meeting, Birdi called upon officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance and coordination during both the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and Muharram period to ensure their peaceful and smooth conduct across the Valley.
