Srinagar: Director General of Police, J&K, Nalin Prabhat on Sunday chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess preparedness and strengthen security arrangements for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026).
Reviewing the overall security scenario, the DGP directed officers to maintain a high state of readiness and ensure close coordination among all agencies involved in Yatra security. He stressed the need for heightened vigilance at sensitive and vulnerable locations and called for intensified surveillance, area domination exercises, regular patrolling and anti-sabotage checks along the Yatra routes.
Nalin Prabhat directed officers to ensure round-the-clock security domination of major routes and vulnerable areas connected with the pilgrimage. He also emphasised the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at strategic locations to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
The DGP called for extensive public awareness regarding Yatra cut-off timings and directed officers to regularly inspect security arrangements and facilities established for pilgrims.
Highlighting the role of technology in security management, he instructed officials to make optimum use of CCTV surveillance systems, modern security technologies and RFID-based tracking mechanisms to enhance monitoring and emergency response capabilities at transit camps, base camps and along pilgrimage routes.
He also directed officers to maintain close surveillance on terrorist associates and anti-national elements while ensuring adequate deployment in hinterland areas and at vulnerable locations. Protection of sensitive installations and key assets connected with the Yatra was also stressed during the meeting.
The DGP instructed district SSPs to work in close coordination with the civil administration to ensure effective implementation of security and logistical arrangements. He further directed adequate deployment of personnel along the National Highway and other critical locations to facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims and tourists.
Emphasising preparedness for all contingencies, Nalin Prabhat called for comprehensive planning relating to disaster management, emergency response, fire incidents, adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen situations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the DGP also reviewed security arrangements for the forthcoming Muharram observances and the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani. He directed officers to ensure adequate security, effective crowd management and close coordination with all concerned agencies for the smooth and peaceful conduct of both events.
The meeting concluded with the DGP directing all officers to remain fully prepared and committed to ensuring a safe, secure and peaceful Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
Senior police officers, including Special DGP Coordination S J M Gillani, ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs, SSPs and other officers from Jammu and Kashmir Police, CID, Traffic, Railways, Armed Police and related wings attended the meeting.
