Officials said the accident occurred around 2:15 am and left the car extensively damaged. Two occupants died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries after being shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu.

The deceased were identified as Sikander Saifi, Shakti and Mohit Verma, all residents of Haryana.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, Deepak Verma and Kuldeep Sharma, sustained injuries and were admitted to GMC Jammu for treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

“Deeply grieved to learn about the loss of precious lives in a tragic road accident near Jagti, Nagrota. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed sorrow over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

The Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured persons.

In another accident later in the day, one person was killed and another injured after a speeding car rammed into a J&K RTC bus from behind near the Lasjan Bypass area of Srinagar.

Officials said a black Hyundai Verna bearing registration number PB12AK-5464 collided with the bus, resulting in the death of one occupant on the spot while another sustained injuries.

The injured person was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The identities of the deceased and injured were yet to be ascertained till the filing of this report.

Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.

The twin accidents have once again highlighted concerns over road safety across Jammu and Kashmir, where overspeeding and highway mishaps continue to claim lives despite repeated awareness and enforcement drives by the authorities.
