Srinagar: Fresh snowfall in upper reaches and rain in plains led to a sharp dip in temperatures across Kashmir on Monday, disrupting traffic on several key routes.
According to details, upper reaches including Gurez, Gulmarg and Sonamarg received light to moderate snowfall.
The Gurez-Bandipora road was closed due to snow accumulation, while the Mughal Road was shut following snowfall at Peer Ki Gali, leaving around 200 vehicles stranded.
Officials said stranded passengers, including women, children and patients, have sought assistance, while the Border Roads Organisation is mobilising resources for road clearance and rescue operations.
BRO rescued around 20 vehicles at Razdan Pass and shifted them to safer locations.
Traffic authorities said the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road has also been closed, while one-way traffic is being allowed on the Srinagar-Leh highway between Sonamarg and Kargil, subject to weather conditions.
The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road also remains closed.
Intermittent rain lashed plains including Srinagar, while gusty winds were reported in Bandipora, Sumbal and Hajin.
A man was injured after a tree fell on him along the Sumbal-Bandipora road during strong winds. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
According to the Meteorological Department, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 20.5°C, 2.2°C below normal, while the minimum settled at 10.2°C. Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 11.0°C and minimum of 2.0°C.
The MeT department has forecast widespread rainfall over the next 36 hours with thunder, hailstorms and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) at several places.
