Dr. Farooq, Omar Abdullah express shock, grief over Bukhari’s killing

Srinagar | Friday, 15 June 2018: National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed shock and profound grief over the assassination of Veteran Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir, Shujaat Bukhari.

In a press release issued here, the duo while terming the killing of Bukhari as an assault on moderation, sanity and the very essence of democracy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mr. Omar Abdullah sought a speedy probe into the killing and said the Government must ensure that the culprits are brought to justice as soon as possible.

Expressing solidarity with Bukhari’s family, Dr. Farooq Abdullah prayed for peace to the departed soul and extended his heartfelt condolences to them in their hour of mourning and grief, the press release added.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah visited the residence of Shujaat Bukhari at Kreeri, Baramulla and expressed solidarity with his family. He also participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinaza and prayed for peace to the departed soul, the press release added. He was accompanied by NC General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, State Secretary Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Provincial Secretary Advocate Showkat Ahmed Mir, District President Baramulla Javed Ahmed Dar, Political Advisor Tanveer Sadiq, State Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu, Provincial President Youth National Conference Salman Ali Sagar, Party Leader Muhammad Yaqoob Wani, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Zonal President YNC Advocate Jehangir Yaqoob and various party leaders and activists.

Meanwhile Senior Party Leaders including NC Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Senior Leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Muhammad Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Mian Altaf Ahmed, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Ali Muhammad Dar, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Sakina Ittoo, Mir Saifullah, Shamima Firdous as well as all party legislators have expressed profound grief and shock over Mr. Bukhari’s demise and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
