SRINAGAR: The Union Government on Friday informed the Lok Sabha that 12 Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) are currently functional in Jammu and Kashmir as part of efforts to strengthen cancer care at the district level.

The information was provided by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in response to a starred question on the status of Day Care Cancer Centres across the country.

According to the Ministry, 524 DCCCs are operational nationwide, while 313 additional centres have been sanctioned based on proposals submitted by States and Union Territories under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD).

The government said the requirement for DCCCs is assessed by States and Union Territories through gap analysis and reflected in their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs). Proposals for additional centres are examined as per prescribed norms.

The State/UT-wise data placed before Parliament shows 12 functional Day Care Cancer Centres in Jammu and Kashmir and two in Ladakh.

The reply, however, did not provide district-wise details of the centres in Jammu and Kashmir or information on district-wise allocation and utilisation of funds in the Union Territory.

The government said the initiative aims to establish day-care cancer treatment facilities in district hospitals over a three-year period, as announced in the Union Budget 2025-26.
