Newly elected J&K Softball Association discusses roadmap

Srinagar: The elections of the Softball Association of J&K UT for the term 2022-2026 were held at Amar Singh Club Srinagar.

Voting for electing the Office Bearers of the Association and Executive Committee was held under the supervision of Observers from the Softball Association of India.

Advocate Mir Asrar Ahmad was the Returning Officer (RO) for the election. After completing the election processes, the RO announced office bearers.

Waseem Raja Khan was unanimously elected as General Secretary, while Abdul Rahman Shigan was President and Chaman Lal Bhat was Senior Vice President.

Similarly, Rahil Rashid was elected Joint Secretary for Kashmir and Padam Dev Singh as Joint Secretary for Jammu. Naveed Ahmad Malik was elected as Treasure. Tariq Ahmad Mir and Mohd Ayaz Khan were elected as Vice President.

The Office bearers elected for other posts are Siraj-ud-din, Sachan Singh Jamwal, Feroz Ahmad, Yasir Ali, and Suhail Mukhtar.

Later, the newly elected body convened a meeting to discuss a road map for the promotion of the softball game across J&K UT, right from the village level.

The meeting also discussed domestic activities including hosting of J&K Softball Championship for the year 2022-23, organizing coaching camps in all groups prior to the National Softball Championships at Jammu and Srinagar for the year 2023-24 after taking due permission from the Softball Association of India.

Detailed discussions were also held on the participation of the J&K UT Softball team in different National Championships, Inter Zonal or Federation Cup Softball Championship at Jammu and Srinagar proposed to be organized by the Softball Association of India.

General Secretary, J&K Softball Association, Waseem Raja Khan, while speaking at the meeting, highlighted the rising popularity of softball games at the National and International levels. He asked the newly elected body of the Association to work in unison and mobilize maximum participation of interested budding youth towards the softball game. He suggested launching a talent hunt inviting players from across the nook and corner of the J&K UT to provide the talented youth with a platform to hone their skills.

LR Maury’s, Secretary General of the Softball Association of India, and Dr. Parvin Anaokar, Observer also addressed the meeting and highlighted the achievements of the Softball Association of India and reiterated the commitment of the Association towards the promotion of the Game.

The SAI pledged every possible help for the promotion of the softball game in every slum of the country in general and UT of Jammu and Kashmir in particular.

Earlier, President J&K Softball Association, Abdul Rahman Shigan presented the welcome address and briefly highlighted the achievements of the Association. He also recalled the efforts put in by the founder members of the J&K Softball Association, Late Ahmudullah Mir and Late G. M Dar.
