KU reviews sports calendar, plans expanded activities for 2026-27

Srinagar: The Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPE&S), University of Kashmir, on Monday reviewed its Annual Sports Calendar for the 2026-27 academic session and discussed measures to expand sporting activities across the university and its affiliated colleges.

The meeting, held at the university’s main campus, was chaired by Director DPE&S Prof. Raies Ahmad Qadri and attended by directors of physical education from affiliated colleges, besides assistant directors and coaches of the directorate.

Prof. Qadri reiterated the directorate’s commitment to broadening sporting opportunities and said all games recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) would be promoted and included in the annual sports calendar. He stressed the need for wider student participation, systematic training and greater competitive exposure.

The participants discussed scheduling and conduct of tournaments and competitions during the academic session, besides measures to improve coordination and participation in sporting events. College directors also shared suggestions for expanding sports activities and creating structured opportunities for emerging sportspersons.

The meeting emphasised coordinated planning and enhanced student participation to strengthen the sporting culture across the university and its affiliated colleges.

Assistant Director DPE&S Dr. Basharat Ali conducted the proceedings, while Assistant Director Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar presented the vote of thanks.
