Srinagar: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), J&K, Divisional Office Kashmir, on Saturday concluded a three-day capacity-building programme on experiential learning in mathematics aimed at strengthening competency-based teaching in schools.
According to an official statement, the programme was organised by the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics under the leadership of Joint Director, SCERT Divisional Office Kashmir, Syed Shabir Ahmad.
The training adopted a cascading model under which Master Resource Persons (MRPs) from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and schools across the Kashmir division were trained to conduct similar programmes for mathematics teachers in their respective districts.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabir Ahmad said the initiative was intended to strengthen teachers’ professional development and improve classroom teaching in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
The programme was coordinated by Senior Academic Officer Gulzar Ahmad Dar, who highlighted the importance of experiential learning in promoting conceptual understanding, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
The technical sessions covered activity-based and inquiry-driven teaching methods, classroom applications of origami in mathematics, hands-on learning strategies, low-cost teaching-learning materials, mathematical puzzles and practical techniques for simplifying abstract concepts.
Resource persons included Dr Khalid, Sheikh Bashir, Abdul Rashid Malla, Sheikh Mohammad Iqbal and Tariq Ahmad Deca, who conducted interactive sessions and practical demonstrations on innovative approaches to mathematics teaching.
During the valedictory session, Assistant Professor SCERT-J&K Javaid Ahmad Banday emphasised the importance of experiential learning in mathematics and urged participants to promote learner-centric teaching practices through district-level training programmes.
The statement said the participants resolved to conduct similar capacity-building programmes in their respective districts to promote competency-based and activity-oriented mathematics education across the Kashmir division.
