DC Budgam reviews Mission Gyan Bharatam, stresses preservation of manuscript heritage

Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Saturday reviewed the implementation of Mission Gyan Bharatam and called for coordinated efforts to preserve, document and digitise the district’s manuscript heritage.

Chairing a review meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed government departments, tehsildars and block development officers to conduct surveys in their respective jurisdictions, including religious sites, heritage buildings, government offices and private collections, to identify valuable manuscripts for preservation, according to an official statement.

He emphasised the need for systematic digitisation, scientific conservation and public awareness to safeguard the district’s heritage and make it accessible through a national digital repository.

During the meeting, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Budgam, who is also the nodal officer for the mission, briefed participants on the progress of digitisation, public outreach and other activities under the programme.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination, regular monitoring and effective field-level implementation to ensure the preservation of the district’s manuscript heritage for future generations, the statement added.
