SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday expressed serious concern over the escalating tensions in West Asia, warning that the situation poses a threat to regional and global peace and stability.
Dr Farooq said all actions that could further fuel instability or derail diplomatic efforts must be discouraged, urging stakeholders to work collectively towards preserving peace and preventing further conflict.
Expressing concern over ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon and civilian casualties, he said military confrontation cannot provide a lasting solution to political disputes and only worsens humanitarian crises. He called upon the international community to intensify efforts for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance.
Appealing to Iran and the United States to exercise restraint, patience and statesmanship, Dr Farooq said diplomatic progress achieved through dialogue must not be allowed to collapse.
“Dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect and adherence to international commitments remain the only credible path towards resolving differences. Military escalation serves no one’s long-term interests,” he said.
He urged regional and international organisations involved in mediation to strengthen diplomatic initiatives, revive dialogue and promote confidence-building measures to prevent a wider confrontation.
Highlighting the global impact of wars, Dr Farooq said conflicts often have far-reaching economic and humanitarian consequences, affecting energy supplies, fuel and food prices, inflation and the livelihoods of ordinary people.
He appealed to all parties to act with wisdom and commitment to diplomacy so that peace, stability and mutual respect prevail in West Asia.
