Mendhar: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Sunday attended the final of the Dr Masud Choudhary Memorial Championship League at O.P. Hill Ground, Mendhar.
Jatt 11 emerged champions after defeating Mendhar 11 in an exciting final played amid enthusiastic participation from sports lovers and local youth.
Batting first after winning the toss, Mendhar 11 scored 167 runs in the allotted 15 overs. Chasing a target of 168 runs, Jatt 11 reached the mark in 14.2 overs to lift the championship trophy. Ranjeet Singh delivered a match-winning performance and was declared Man of the Match.
Javed Rana, who attended the event as chief guest, congratulated both teams for displaying sportsmanship, discipline and competitive spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the growing interest of youth in sports reflects the immense talent present in border areas. He said the government is committed to creating better sports facilities to provide young sportspersons opportunities to excel at different levels.
Rana announced that several sports infrastructure projects would be taken up in Mendhar to strengthen sporting facilities in the area. He informed that projects including an Indoor Stadium, Synthetic Track and Cricket Ground are already under execution and the next championship would be organised at the new ground.
Appreciating the organisers for successfully conducting the tournament, the Minister said such events play an important role in promoting teamwork, discipline and healthy competition among youth.
He reiterated the government’s commitment towards sports development in border districts, particularly Rajouri and Poonch, and assured continued support for creating modern sports infrastructure.
Prominent citizens, sports enthusiasts, local representatives and members of the organising committee were present on the occasion.
