Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) on Monday expressed concern over the reported conditions at Lal Ded (LD) Hospital, Srinagar, and urged the government to take immediate measures to improve maternal healthcare facilities at the institution.
In a statement, the party said reports of overcrowding and shortage of beds at the hospital were a matter of concern, particularly for pregnant women and new mothers seeking treatment and care.
The party alleged that some patients were being compelled to share beds due to inadequate accommodation and increasing patient load, a situation it said affects patient comfort, dignity and overall healthcare standards.
JKAP said pregnancy and childbirth are among the most challenging phases in a woman’s life and stressed that women deserve adequate care, comfort and medical attention during this critical period.
The party appealed to Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to personally visit the hospital and assess the situation on the ground.
According to the statement, direct intervention by the minister could help identify shortcomings and facilitate timely corrective measures to improve patient care and hospital infrastructure.
The party urged the Health Department to address issues related to overcrowding and bed shortages, strengthen infrastructure and healthcare facilities, and ensure dignified treatment for all patients.
It also called for augmentation of manpower and resources wherever required to improve service delivery and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
JKAP maintained that maternal healthcare should remain a priority area and emphasised the need for ensuring safe, accessible and quality healthcare services for women across Jammu and Kashmir.
The party said the well-being of mothers is closely linked to the overall health and welfare of society and called for sustained efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and patient care standards at maternity hospitals.
