Srinagar: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Chowdry Muhammad Ramzan on Monday accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of maintaining political links with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and attempting to divert attention from issues related to Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional and political rights.

Ramzan made the remarks while interacting with party functionaries, office-bearers and public delegations at the National Conference headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, in Srinagar.

The meeting discussed organisational affairs, public issues and the party’s future political roadmap. MLA Ali Mohammad Dar, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmad and Neelofar Masood were among those present.

Addressing party workers, Ramzan alleged that the PDP becomes politically active whenever the National Conference intensifies its campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional, political and democratic rights.

He claimed that attempts have repeatedly been made to create political distractions whenever the National Conference assumes a leading role in major political movements concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to past political developments, Ramzan alleged that the emergence of the PDP following the 1999 Autonomy Resolution was aimed at dividing public opinion and weakening a unified political voice.

He further claimed that the PDP has once again adopted a strategy of diversion at a time when the National Conference is preparing to intensify its constitutional and political campaign for the restoration of statehood and other democratic rights.

According to the NC leader, the PDP’s political approach has been marked by creating confusion and ambiguity rather than addressing the aspirations of the people.

Ramzan alleged that certain political forces become active whenever the National Conference raises issues related to the rights, dignity and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He maintained that the National Conference would continue its political and constitutional struggle for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s rights and democratic institutions.

The meeting also reviewed organisational matters and discussed strategies for strengthening the party at the grassroots level and addressing public concerns across the region.
