Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir on Monday launched an AI-driven e-Plant Health Clinic App aimed at providing farmers across Kashmir with real-time scientific advisory services through a digital platform.
The mobile application, available on Android and iOS platforms, was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Nazir Ahmad Ganai during a programme organised at the Directorate of Extension.
The event was attended by Raihana Habib Kanth, scientists, university officers, farmers and other stakeholders.
Officials said the application has been developed by integrating artificial intelligence with scientific expertise to help farmers identify and manage crop diseases, pest attacks, nutrient deficiencies and other plant health-related issues.
The platform provides a user-friendly interface through which farmers can directly interact with experts from SKUAST-K.
One of the key features of the app is real-time video consultation, enabling farmers to connect with scientists through live video calls, display affected crops or orchards and receive immediate expert guidance.
The application also allows users to upload photographs of diseased plants for diagnosis and remedial recommendations.
According to the university, the initiative is expected to improve access to timely agricultural advisory services, reduce crop losses and minimise unnecessary use of chemical pesticides and fertilisers.
During a live demonstration session, Krishi Vigyan Kendras from different districts of Kashmir and local farmers joined the programme through the app and interacted with the Vice Chancellor and expert panel.
Several farmers raised crop-related concerns and received immediate solutions from scientists.
Speaking on the occasion, Nazir Ahmad Ganai appreciated the efforts of Haziq Hussain for developing the application and acknowledged the contribution of scientists from the Directorate of Extension in refining the platform.
He said digital technologies are becoming increasingly important in agricultural extension services and added that the app would strengthen outreach to the farming community.
Participants, including scientists, KVK personnel, Farmer Producer Organisations, officers and farmers, expressed confidence that the initiative would help strengthen sustainable agriculture and improve dissemination of scientific knowledge among farmers in Kashmir.
