SRINAGAR, APRIL 22: President of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, on Wednesday urged the government to reopen all tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir that were closed following the terror attack in Pahalgam last year.
He said that with the situation having improved in terms of peace and normalcy, the government should take all necessary measures to further strengthen the atmosphere of stability.
Bukhari said that several sections of society whose livelihoods depend on tourism continue to suffer because of the continued closure of various destinations, including Baisaran, Pahalgam, Doodhpathri, Sonamarg, Yusmarg, Kokernag, Verinag and Tosa Maidan, among others.
The Apni Party president also appealed to the people to extend every possible support to the ongoing anti-drug campaign launched recently by the administration under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign.
He said the growing menace of drugs has severely affected society and is causing irreparable harm to the younger generation.
“It is our collective responsibility to take every necessary step to eradicate this menace from society,” Bukhari said.
He made these remarks during an event organised at the party headquarters in Srinagar to welcome new entrants into the party fold.
Those who joined the party included Arif Sultan, Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Showkat Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Mohammad Hajam and Abdul Arshid Wani, besides several others. All the new entrants belong to the Shivpora area of the Lal Chowk constituency.
Among other party leaders present on the occasion were Rafi Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Farooq Andrabi, Mohammad Shafi Mir, Jeelani Hamid Kumar and Mohd Hanif Bhat.
