Srinagar: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday advised consumers not to purchase or consume a batch of “Dust Tea (Premium Instant Mix Tea)” marketed under the brand “New Fast Tea” after it was declared unsafe by the National Food Laboratory (NFL), Ghaziabad.

According to the FDA, the advisory pertains to Batch No. 10, packed by M/s INAAM Tea Agency, Thane, Maharashtra.

Officials said the sample was collected by the Food Safety Officer, Tral, on June 27 during routine enforcement and sent to the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, for analysis.

The laboratory report found the sample contained the prohibited synthetic food colours Tartrazine and Sunset Yellow, rendering it unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules framed thereunder.

Based on the findings, the Designated Officer (Assistant Commissioner), Pulwama, has issued a prohibition order under the Food Safety and Standards Act banning the sale and distribution of the affected batch in Pulwama district. Further regulatory proceedings have also been initiated, the FDA said.

The administration has advised consumers who possess the affected batch not to consume it and urged the public to report any sale or distribution of the product to the concerned Designated Officer or the Food and Drugs Administration.

The FDA also appealed to consumers to report the sale of the prohibited batch or any suspected unsafe, adulterated or misbranded food through its toll-free helpline 104 or by emailing cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
