The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, reflecting growing interest in sustainable and affordable energy solutions.

Officials informed during the programme that more than 5,000 rooftop solar systems have already been installed in Srinagar district under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

The camp was attended by Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer KPDCL Syed Ahmad Wani, Superintending Engineer KPDCL Mohammad Amin Shah and Executive Engineers of all four KPDCL divisions, including Syed Abrar, Tasaduq Nabi and Nissar Ahmad, besides other KPDCL officials, scheme vendors and technical experts.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the benefits of rooftop solar installations, saying they can significantly reduce electricity bills while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

He said the scheme provides subsidies to households, making clean energy solutions more affordable and accessible.

Akshay Labroo said the purpose of the programme was to inform residents about the benefits of the scheme and enable on-the-spot registration. He said the scheme is voluntary and demand-driven and urged people to enrol so that they can lower their energy costs while contributing towards environmental conservation.

The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the need to intensify outreach efforts and organise similar awareness camps across Srinagar district so that more households can benefit from lower electricity bills and increased use of renewable energy.

During the event, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the awareness and registration stalls established by KPDCL and participating vendors. He also felicitated beneficiaries who have already availed benefits under the scheme and appreciated the efforts of the district administration, KPDCL and other stakeholders involved in its implementation.

Officials and technical experts present at the camp guided participants regarding eligibility criteria, subsidy provisions, installation procedures and registration formalities under the scheme.

Live demonstrations and interactive sessions were also organised to address public queries and concerns.

Several beneficiaries also shared their experiences during the camp and spoke about the advantages of installing rooftop solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in their homes.
