‘My Youth My Pride’: Sports activities prevail over rain in Udhampur

JAMMU: A three-day competition in the disciplines of Taekwondo, Cricket, and Kabbadi concluded in the sports stadium Poonch yesterday evening. In Taekwondo alone 150 players were part of the event in which competitions were held in categories of sub-junior, junior, and senior boys and girls.

In Kabbadi, players fielded in four teams competed with each other and in the finals, Royal club defeated Star club by 10 points to claim the title. In the final of the cricket championship, RDCA defeated Pahari Hostel by 4 wickets to claim the trophy.

Meanwhile, a Gatka competition was organized at the same venue in which 60 players took part in the categories of U15, U17, U19, and seniors. Jasbir Singh, Principal of government college Poonch was the chief guest on the occasion while SHO city was the guest of honor.

In district Rajouri, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho matches were organized at mini stadium Rajouri. The boys and girls club of Rajouri participated in the event. A large number of spectators were also present at the venue.

Volleyball matches for both boys and girls were conducted in the sports stadium in Rajouri in which more than sixty players from different educational institutions participated. In the girls’ category, National Public School was outplayed by the Ehsaan club in three straight sets while in the boys’ category, the Khelo India Centre team defeated Degree College Rajouri by two sets to one.

Meanwhile, in district Reasi, Chess Championship was organized in which forty players from different panchayats participated. In district Udhampur, heavy rains washed away the outdoor activities of Football and Athletics, however, the three-day volleyball championship went ahead as per the schedule in the indoor sports hall of Ramnagar in the district. Five boys’ and four girls’ teams are participating in the event.

In Kashmir division, district Srinagar is hosting the first of its kind Asian Pencak Silat Championship-2022 held at Sher-i Kashmir Indoor Stadium Srinagar from tomorrow. The championship shall be played over six days in which teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and hosts India will participate.

This is the first international event to be played under the banner of the Sports Council’s special initiative, My Youth My Pride. The event is being held under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

J&K Sports Council is sponsoring the event and the Indian Pencak Silat Federation is the organizer of the event which was sanctioned by the Asian Pencak Silat Federation and the International Pencak Silat Federation.

A meeting in this regard was also convened by Nuzhat Farooq, Sports Officer Kashmir in Srinagar today in which members of the organizing body and other officials from the Sports Council were present.
