5 drug peddlers held in Kashmir

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla and Sopore, and recovered contraband substances along with cash from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

He said in Anantnag, police at Jablipora Bijbehara one Mohammad Shafi Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara, was arrested after 780 grams of cannabis powder and a cash of Rs 37,740 was recovered from his possession.

At Panchpora Astanpora crossing police intercepted a vehicle (JK03A-7906) and recovered about 7 kgs of poppy straw-like substance from it. The driver of the vehicle identified as Shakir Ahmad Ganie, son of Gulzar Ahmad Ganie of T.M Shah Bijbehara was arrested and the vehicle seized.

At a checkpoint established at Kreeri Baramulla two persons — Suhail Ahmad Bhat, son of Hilal Ahmad of Vizer Wagoora, and Mohammad Ashraf Khan, son of Mohammad Yousuf of Frasthar, were arrested after 35 grams of cannabis-like substances and cash of Rs 5000 was recovered from their possession.

In Sopore, at Vijbal one Aamir Rasool Gojree, son of Ghulam Rasool Gojree of Syed Kareem Baramulla, was arrested and 10 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him.

Cases against all these accused drug peddlers have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
