Traffic to move towards Jammu for second day on Monday, says ADGP Traffic
‘1048 vehicles carrying supplies reached Kashmir’
Srinagar: After the launch of bailey bridge on Srinagar-Jammu National highway at Kela Morh in Ramban, authorities on Saturday evening allowed 1048 vehicles carrying essential supplies to move towards Kashmir valley, officials said Sunday.
They said that on Sunday traffic was allowed to move from Srinagar towards Jammu.
Earlier, authorities had suspended traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway after a portion of road near the retaining wall of a bridge at Kela Morh sank in on January 10.
As an interim measure to restore the vehicular traffic on the highway, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sought help of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to build the bailey bridge at Kela Morh, which finished the task Saturday afternoon.
News agency KNO quoted the ADGP Traffic T. Namgyal as saying that as soon as the bailey bridge was made functional on Saturday evening for traffic movement, 1048 vehicles with essential supplies, which included 48 LPG trucks, 151 oil tankers, 39 sheep trucks, 108 vegetable trucks, 230 fruit trucks and 55 gas tankers were allowed to move towards the Kashmir Valley.
He said on Monday traffic will be allowed from Kashmir towards Jammu only as there are stranded vehicles in Kashmir and for tomorrow they will be allowed to move towards Jammu.
He further said that the restoration work on the bridge is going on and one way traffic norm will be strictly adhered to on the highway.
