NEW DELHI: The Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) has generated more than 31.69 crore person-days of employment since its rollout on July 1, 2026, with women accounting for 61.65 per cent of participation in the current financial year, the Union government said on Saturday.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, the framework has been implemented across rural areas of the country following the transition from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment in each financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work.
As of September 24, the programme had 10.88 crore active workers in 2026-27. Employment was provided to more than 2.81 crore workers from around 2.23 crore rural households, while 2.83 lakh assets had been created.
The government said 97.17 lakh works were under execution, with 73.24 lakh approved works available to meet future employment demand. Around 20.16 lakh worksites were operational, and nearly 2.31 lakh Gram Panchayats were executing works.
The programme had issued 15.17 crore Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards and recorded 3.76 crore Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) transactions in 2026-27. Daily wage rates range from Rs 300 to Rs 450, depending on the applicable rate.
Planning and convergence
The framework focuses on four thematic areas: water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood-related infrastructure and mitigation of extreme weather events.
A key component is the preparation of Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans (VGPPs), which are intended to integrate local development priorities through participatory planning involving Gram Sabhas and Gram Panchayats.
The process includes mapping existing assets and infrastructure gaps, using geographic information system (GIS)-based tools, including Yuktdhara and PM Gati Shakti, and coordinating interventions across government schemes and departments.
The government said the framework identifies 318 types of permissible works across the four thematic areas. Plans are to be consolidated at block, district, state and national levels, contributing to the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack.
Financial allocation and digital monitoring
The Centre has allocated Rs 93,841 crore to states and Union Territories as an interim allocation for 2026-27. A first instalment of Rs 25,880 crore has been issued as a mother sanction, the ministry said.
Digital systems are being used for worker verification, attendance, work monitoring and payments. These include e-KYC, face and biometric authentication, geo-tagging, electronic Measurement Books and mobile-based monitoring.
The government said spatial technology, real-time dashboards and artificial intelligence-enabled analytics would support oversight and corrective action.
The framework seeks to link wage employment with sustainable asset creation and integrated rural development, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
