JAMMU: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Ashok Kumar Bhagat of Akhnoor as chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Scheduled Caste Department.
The appointment was approved by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and formally communicated by General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal on the recommendation of AICC Scheduled Caste Department chairman Rajinder Pal Gautam and the JKPCC.
JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday felicitated Bhagat at the party headquarters in Jammu and handed him the appointment letter.
Bhagat had contested the last Assembly elections as the Congress candidate from Akhnoor and secured over 25,000 votes.
The occasion was attended by JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla, former minister Mula Ram and PCC headquarters in-charge Ved Mahajan, a former Member of Legislative Council.
