KIC Centre Handwara wins ASMITA Women’s Wushu League Title

Around 400 girls participate in league held in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: The ASMITA Women’s Wushu League 2026 concluded in Baramulla on Friday, with KIC Centre Handwara emerging as the overall champion of the competition.

Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association, the league witnessed participation from around 400 girls from different parts of the Union Territory.

In the overall standings, KIC Centre Handwara secured the championship trophy, while Baramulla Sports Club finished second and Shah Hamdan Sports Club claimed third place.

The closing ceremony was attended by Chairman, Global Youth Foundation, Touseef Raina, as chief guest, while President, Khaki Association, Annu, was the guest of honour.

Addressing the participants, the dignitaries congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials and organisers and appreciated the increasing participation of women and girls in Wushu and other sporting disciplines.

They also highlighted the role of martial arts in promoting physical fitness, self-defence, discipline and confidence among young women.

The speakers commended the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association in expanding the sport across the Union Territory and creating opportunities for young athletes at the grassroots level. They also acknowledged initiatives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in sports.

During the event, speakers highlighted the achievements of several women Wushu players from Jammu and Kashmir who have represented the country at national and international levels, including Ayeera Hassan Chisti, Ansa Hassan Chisti, Abida, Jiya Manhas, Hiranya, Munazah Qazi, Kifa Shah, Sadia Tariq, Pratiba Devi and Dhruvika Devi.

Office-bearers of the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association congratulated all participants, coaches, technical officials and members of the organising committee for the successful conduct of the event.

Special appreciation was also extended to Ajaz Hassan and Musharaf Qayoom for their contribution to organising the league.

Organisers said the competition was aimed at strengthening women’s participation in sports and identifying emerging Wushu talent from across Jammu and Kashmir.
