National Sports Day celebrated across Jammu Division

Sports Council organises events in Jammu and Udhampur to promote fitness and sporting culture

JAMMU: National Sports Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at K.K. Hakoo Stadium in Jammu and Subash Stadium in Udhampur on Friday, with athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts participating in a range of sporting activities organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.

At K.K. Hakoo Stadium, the celebrations were held under the banner of the J&K Sports Council to promote sports, fitness and healthy living among youth.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar attended the event as chief guest, while Monish Kumar, Sports Officer, was the guest of honour. The programme was organised under the supervision of District Sports Officer Bashir Ahmed and Stadium Manager Ajay Gupta.

Addressing participants, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship among young people. He also interacted with athletes and encouraged them to adopt sports and physical fitness as an integral part of their lives.

The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the J&K Sports Council in promoting sporting activities and providing opportunities to emerging athletes.

Senior Athletic Coach Pawandeep Kaur, along with other coaches and officials, was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, in Udhampur, National Sports Day was marked with a Table Tennis competition at the Indoor Sports Hall, Subash Stadium, under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.”

The event, organised by the J&K Sports Council, coincided with the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and drew participation from around 70 young players.

Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Chenani Balwant Singh Mankotia attended as the chief guest and encouraged participants to pursue sporting excellence through dedication and hard work.

Officials said the event aimed to promote physical fitness and instil values such as discipline, leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship among youth.

The programme concluded with participants, coaches and officials being commended for contributing to the successful conduct of the celebrations.
