SRINAGAR: The Cultural Unit and Field Publicity Unit of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) organised a series of ‘Jashn-e-Azadi’ cultural and educational programmes at various schools in Srinagar as part of the celebrations marking the 80th Independence Day.
The programmes were held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Kothi Bagh, GGHSS Zadibal, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Zadibal and Government High School (GHS) Drugjan Dalgate.
At GGHSS Kothi Bagh, the highlight was a patriotic singing competition in which students presented solo and group performances. The students expressed their patriotic sentiments through music and celebrated the values of freedom, unity and national pride.
The programme was presided over by Deputy Director Information Zubair Ahmed Lattoo. Cultural Officer Abdul Raqib Bhat, Field Publicity Officer Shabir Ahmad and Assistant Exhibition and Cultural Officer Syed Shakeel Shah were also present. Principal GGHSS Kothi Bagh Dr Sameena Wani, teachers and students attended the programme.
Musicians Imtiyaz Malik, Nayeem Naqash and Wahid Ali accompanied the participating students during their performances.
Similar programmes were organised at GGHSS Zadibal, GBHSS Zadibal and GHS Drugjan Dalgate, featuring painting, speech, quiz and singing activities. The events provided students with platforms to showcase their creativity, patriotic spirit and appreciation for the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
The students participated enthusiastically in the activities, adding vibrancy to the Independence Day celebrations. The programmes were aimed at fostering patriotic consciousness among young minds and reinforcing the values of freedom, unity, sacrifice, national integrity and responsible citizenship.
Speaking on the occasion, DIPR officers highlighted the role of cultural activities in nurturing patriotism, strengthening national spirit and providing young people opportunities to showcase their creative talent.
Abdul Raqib Bhat, Cultural Officer, Kashmir, and Syed Shakeel Shah, AECO, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and acknowledged the cooperation extended by the school authorities in ensuring the smooth conduct of the programmes.
Principal Dr Sameena Wani also appreciated DIPR’s efforts to engage students through meaningful cultural activities, saying such initiatives provide opportunities to showcase talent while fostering a sense of patriotism and national belonging.
Students, judges, accompanying musicians and the principal were felicitated for their participation and contribution to the programmes.
