Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir received significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Kathua KVK recording the highest at 156 mm. Jammu recorded 79 mm, Katra 71 mm and Samba 55 mm, the Meteorological Department said.

An official of MeT Centre Srinagar told GNS that, one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on August 11 and 12. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at a few districts of Jammu division, while brief intense showers are likely at a few districts of Kashmir division during tomorrow forenoon and afternoon hours.

From August 13 to 16, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places with brief intense showers at a few places. Between August 17 and 19, a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places. Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are expected at a few districts during early morning and afternoon hours. From August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are possible at scattered places.

The MeT department has advised that there is a possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at a few districts during August 11-12 and August 17-19, with heavy to very heavy rain at one or two districts of Jammu division. It added that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable places.

People, tourists and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and follow the administration’s guidelines.(GNS)
