Satish Sharma champions women-led development at Trailblazer Awards

JAMMU: Minister for Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, today addressed the 5th Edition of the Trailblazer Awards, organised by the FICCI FLO JKL Chapter, celebrating the achievements and leadership of women entrepreneurs and change makers across the region.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister lauded the awardees as trailblazers shaping the future of Jammu & Kashmir through innovation, resilience and leadership. He said that women of the region have long upheld families, culture and community through challenging times and today are leading the transformation of society with confidence and vision. He emphasised that the government remains committed to creating equal opportunities, access and a level playing field to ensure women can fully realise their potential.

The Minister outlined key initiatives being undertaken to promote women-led development. He highlighted financial empowerment measures supporting women entrepreneurs, including assistance under Mission Youth’s Tejaswini Scheme and market-linkage initiatives that help local products reach global platforms. He also underlined the transformative role of women’s Self-Help Groups in rural development through livelihood generation, financial inclusion and food processing initiatives.

Focusing on the future, Satish Sharma stressed the importance of science, technology and digital inclusion. He announced expanded efforts to promote digital literacy among women, especially in remote areas, enabling opportunities in coding, design and e-commerce from home. He also urged collaboration with FICCI FLO to establish “Women in Tech” incubators to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to youth empowerment, the Minister spoke about strengthening the sports infrastructure for girls, promoting self-defence training for confidence building and intensifying campaigns against drug abuse through awareness, rehabilitation and community partnerships. He emphasised that engaging youth in skill development, volunteering and leadership roles is vital for nation-building.

Calling for closer collaboration, Satish Sharma extended partnership to FICCI FLO to establish a “Mentorship Bank” to guide rural entrepreneurs and identify regulatory and logistical bottlenecks that hinder business growth.

Congratulating the awardees, he said they embody the spirit of a progressive and aspirational Jammu & Kashmir. He urged them to continue inspiring others through their leadership and achievements.

“In rewriting the story of Jammu & Kashmir, your courage and determination are the guiding force,” he said, adding that when a woman rises, she uplifts her family, community and region.

The Trailblazer Awards 2026 honoured the outstanding achievers across multiple categories including Public Service, Forces, Medical Fraternity, Education, Culture & Heritage, Social Impact &and Grassroot Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Media & Entertainment and Hospitality. The awardees were recognized for their dedication, leadership and meaningful contributions to society.

Speaking on the occasion, Aarti Chowdhary, Chairperson of FICCI FLO JKL, said that celebrating remarkable women on National Women’s Day makes the recognition even more meaningful, as it honours those who have transformed challenges into opportunities and continue to inspire others.

With a legacy spanning over four decades, FICCI FLO has been at the forefront of women’s empowerment by fostering economic independence, professional excellence and leadership among women. The Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Chapter continues to actively promote initiatives focused on skilling, entrepreneurship, collaboration and community development.
