Srinagar: Asserting that there is no shadow cabinet system in India, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir before and after elections.
The CM’s assertions follow reports about the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) having formed a shadow cabinet to keep an eye on the performance of the government in the union territory.
The BJP, Omar Abdullah claimed, ran the state until a popular government was formed in 2024, and now it is the elected government’s turn to lead.
“There is only one cabinet and there is no shadow cabinet in our country. The BJP has ruled here till now. Now, the people’s government will do its work. We have promised the people about meeting their expectations, and we stand by our promise,” Abdullah told reporters after offering his condolences to the family of Late Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi at Hyderpora this afternoon.
Regarding NC and Congress’ separate legislature party meetings in Jammu on Sunday, the chief minister said that each session of the House is preceded by such meetings, and that the purpose of this one was to discuss the upcoming budget session.
“See, these meetings are not the first of their sort; a meeting is called prior to each session. We will undoubtedly discuss the upcoming session. There are several topics that will be discussed,” the CM added.
Speaking about his meeting to review the preparedness for the holy month of Ramzan, Abdullah said it is the government’s responsibility to provide all facilities to the people.
“We reviewed every department and directed all to ensure every facility, be it power supply at the time of Sehri and Iftar, water supply, ration supply, sanitation and traffic. It is hoped that the government will take all these steps,” he said.
The Budget session will commence on Monday.
