Jammu, June15: Strongly condemning the brutal killing of Syed Shujaat Bukhari, senior journalist and Chief Editor of ‘Daily Rising Kashmir’ and terming the attack by unknown militants as ‘cowardly’ Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Coordinator, Jammu Province, Choudhary Ab Hamid termed it as a big loss to not only the media fraternity but the state in particular. Bukhari was killed Friday evening outside his office at Press Enclave in Lal Chowk Srinagar.

A press release issued here said that while chairing a condolence meeting convened at the Party Office here today, Choudhary while paying glowing tributes to Bukhari said that he was a voice of moderation and a courageous editor who always stood for true journalism and honesty. “He fought through his columns and debates for the people of the state, but Alas! This true voice has been silenced by gruesome attackers who are enemies of humanity,” Choudhary was quoted as saying by the press release. He also highlighted his (Bukhari’s) contribution to freedom of expression, democracy and peace while expressing condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
