Baramulla: Police on Sunday booked and seized six vehicles during separate operations against alleged illegal sand extraction and unauthorised transportation of minerals across Baramulla district.
According to police, a tipper (JK01M-8252) was intercepted during naka checking at Delina and was found transporting sand without a valid royalty permit. Action was initiated under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, following which the vehicle was released as per procedure.
During a raid at Pachhar Ghat in Jahama, police allegedly found two tractors, bearing registration numbers JK02B-1770 and JK13C-0752, involved in illegal sand extraction. The vehicles were seized and legal action under the MMDR Act was initiated against the persons concerned.
In another operation at Chakloo Naka, a truck (JK09A-5301) allegedly carrying sand without authorisation was intercepted and seized. Police said the vehicle was handed over to the District Mineral Officer, Baramulla, for further action under the MMDR Act.
A tractor bearing vehicle number 9361152707 was also intercepted during naka checking and was found transporting sand without a valid royalty permit. After legal action under the MMDR Act, the vehicle was released in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Meanwhile, during patrolling at Nowpora Wagoora, police intercepted another tractor allegedly transporting minerals without valid documents. The vehicle was seized and later released after completion of the required legal formalities.
Police said the drive against illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minerals would continue across the district.
