Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti Monday appealed to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to consider on ‘humanitarian grounds’ shifting of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in different jails of India to nearest jails in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the media after chairing the party’s political affairs committee meeting here, Mufti said Jammu and Kashmir is part of the great country (India) and the efforts should be strengthened to bridge the gap between Center and the people of J&K.

The PDP leader requested PM Modi to adopt his predecessors’ including late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh’s policy vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir.

“Thousands of youth from Jammu and Kashmir are languishing in different jails of India; they haven’t seen their parents for long. I appeal to you (PM) being the premier of a great country (India) to consider on humanitarian grounds shifting of these youth back from outside jails to nearest jails in J&K,” she added.

She also claimed that three members of a single family, including a woman from Chitragam Wachi in south Kashmir’s Shopian, have been detained by the police for having a distant relationship with an active militant.

“This is not done; I think the differences you are trying to remove will further increase in case the situation remains the same. I appeal to you to adopt the policy of your predecessors’ vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir. They started a dialogue process with Pakistan and the people of Kashmir and we appeal to you to start that process afresh,” Mufti appealed to the PM.
