17, 26,674 children given polio drops across J&K

Srinagar: National Immunization Day 2022 (Polio Ravivaar), was organised today across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Director General, Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, on the first day booth-level activity, a total of 17,26,674 (88 percent) children of 0-5 years age group were administered polio drops against the targeted population of 19,63,949 children.

In Kashmir division, 10,17,130 children were administered oral doses while as 7,09,544 children were given the same across Jammu division.

He said the door to door campaign will continue for next two days to achieve 100 percent immunization of the children across the UT.

For the smooth coverage of eligible population, 10,879 booths were established besides 43,270 trained health workers/vaccinators and 2,236 supervisors were deployed across J&K for the polio campaign.

Moreover 431 mobile and 772 transit teams have also been deployed for this campaign besides adequate quantity of pulse polio doses (vaccine) has been kept available at the designated booths across the Union territory, an official press release informed.

Meanwhile here, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole inaugurated Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme for the children of 0-5 years age at JLNM Hospital, Rainawari, Srinagar by administering polio drops to newborn infant.

Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather; MS, JLNM Hospital and medical and paramedical staff of the hospital were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Div Com said that about 11 lakh children will be administered polio drops across Kashmir Division at 5,391 polio booths to eliminate the disease and protect children.

He said that 22,059 vaccinators have been put on the duty to cover all the eligible population of children in Kashmir division.

Besides, he said, 298 transit teams and 143 mobile teams have been constituted to make the immunization drive successful.

He also appealed to parents to take their children to the nearby booths, health centers or hospitals for pulse polio drops and save their children from the disease.
