SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Monday reviewed a proposed infrastructure upgradation plan for Bakshi Stadium, with officials discussing measures to enhance seating capacity, improve spectator facilities and strengthen the venue’s overall infrastructure.
At a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, officials examined proposals for expanding the Central Pavilion, upgrading the North and South Pavilions, providing roofing for public stands and improving access to the main ground.
According to officials, the proposed project aims to increase the stadium’s capacity and improve facilities for players, spectators and officials. Plans also include improving accessibility and upgrading the drainage system to enable the venue to host sporting events and other major activities throughout the year.
Labroo directed the concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) covering all proposed infrastructure works and allied interventions required for the stadium’s modernisation.
He asked officials to adopt a long-term approach while planning the upgrade, taking into account future requirements for hosting major sporting events, tournaments and public programmes. He also called for an assessment of existing infrastructure gaps and the incorporation of sustainable and durable solutions in the DPR.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to prioritise improvements to the stadium’s drainage network to address recurring waterlogging issues, particularly during heavy rainfall. He directed that drainage interventions be comprehensively planned to ensure better usability of the facility throughout the year.
Officials were also instructed to ensure that all proposed works are technically assessed and executed in a coordinated manner while minimising disruption to ongoing sporting activities at the stadium.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer Roads and Buildings (R&B) South Tatheer Manzoor, Sub-Divisional Magistrate West Irfan Bahadur, Executive Engineer R&B Khalid Mehmood, Executive Engineer Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and other officials.
