CRPF volleyball tournament begins in Srinagar

Eight teams competing in three-day knockout event under Civic Action Programme

SRINAGAR: The 132 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), under the Srinagar Sector, on Monday launched a three-day volleyball tournament in Srinagar as part of the Civic Action Programme 2025-26 aimed at promoting sports and youth engagement.

The tournament, being held at the volleyball court of the 132 Battalion CRPF premises near Nedous Hotel, will continue until September 16. A total of eight teams are participating in the knockout-format competition.

The event was inaugurated by Commandant W.R. Josuah of the 132 Battalion CRPF in the presence of CRPF personnel, participating players and local residents of the M.A. Road area.

In the opening match, Syedpora Smashers defeated Court Crushers to advance in the tournament.

Addressing the gathering, Josuah said the tournament was intended to encourage young people to participate in sports, provide a platform for emerging volleyball players and strengthen engagement between security forces and local youth in Srinagar.

CRPF officials also distributed volleyball kits to players of all eight participating teams.

According to the organisers, the winning team will receive a cash prize of ₹10,000 along with a trophy and certificates, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹7,000, a trophy and certificates. The best player of the tournament will receive ₹1,500 along with a trophy and certificate.
