Srinagar: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday extended greetings on the eve of Teachers’ Day, describing teachers as key contributors to nation-building and urging greater recognition for their role in shaping future generations.
In a statement, Abdullah said teachers occupy a respected position in society and play a vital role in imparting education and guiding students towards becoming responsible citizens. He urged educators to continue their efforts in nurturing knowledge, values and character among students.
The NC president also expressed concern over what he termed the long-pending issue of pay disparity faced by teachers working in private schools. He appealed to private school managements to address the issue and ensure that teachers receive adequate salaries and due recognition for their services.
Abdullah said teachers have an important responsibility in promoting values, culture and civic responsibility among children so that they grow into productive members of society.
Referring to NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, he said the late leader had begun his career as a teacher and later prioritised the education sector after assuming leadership of the erstwhile state. He also highlighted improvements in literacy levels over the decades, attributing them to sustained efforts to expand access to education.
The NC president extended his greetings to the teaching community and acknowledged their contribution to society through education and mentorship, the statement added.
