Jammu/Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday celebrated the 80th Independence Day by hoisting the national flag at party offices and public venues across Jammu and Kashmir.
At the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma hoisted the Tricolour in the presence of MLA Choudhary Vikram Randhawa, party vice-presidents Rajiv Charak and Rekha Mahajan, general secretaries Baldev Singh Billawaria and Gopal Mahajan, and other leaders and workers.
In Srinagar, BJP general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul led the flag-hoisting ceremony at Jawahar Nagar along with vice-president Dr Shahnaz Ganai, general secretary Mohammad Anwar Khan, secretary Arif Raja and other party leaders.
Separate flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held at Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan in Kachi Chawni and City Chowk in Jammu. Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana and MLA Arvind Gupta unfurled the national flag at the party office in Kachi Chawni, while Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Yudhvir Sethi led the celebrations at City Chowk.
Addressing party workers, Sat Sharma said Independence Day was a tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation. He said India was progressing towards becoming a global power under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while preserving its democratic values and cultural heritage.
Ashok Koul said Independence Day reminded citizens of their responsibility to uphold the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country, adding that the enthusiasm witnessed across Jammu and Kashmir reflected strong patriotic sentiment among the people.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said the occasion conveyed a message that the sovereignty and security of the nation could not be compromised.
Ghulam Ali Khatana said the Tricolour was flying proudly from border villages to major urban centres, reflecting the spirit of national unity and pride.
