ANANTNAG: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) Base Camp in Chandanwari, Pahalgam, on Friday.
The National Flag was hoisted by Additional Camp Director Chandanwari, Santosh Sharma, in the presence of officers and personnel of the ITBP’s ADHOC VI Unit, Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, medical teams, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and other departments associated with the conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Senior officers present on the occasion included ADHOC Commander Rajesh Luthra, DC (Ops) Gyan Singh, and Assistant Commandants Kulwant and Devender.
A ceremonial parade, commanded by ITBP Sub-Inspector Sheetal, was held as part of the celebrations. Contingents from various agencies participated in the parade.
The Army was represented by officers of the 6 Dogra Regiment, including Major Jithin M., Lieutenant Parkhar Negi and Subedar Sumeet Thakur, while the 439 Field Hospital was represented by Captain Sree Hari and Captain Siddharth. A Jammu and Kashmir Police contingent led by Sub-Inspector Rashid also took part in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma paid tribute to the country’s freedom fighters and national heroes and highlighted the values of unity, integrity and service. He lauded the coordination among security forces, civil administration, medical teams and support agencies deployed at the Yatra base camp.
He also appreciated the efforts of personnel engaged in ensuring the safety, security, medical care and smooth facilitation of pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to national unity, integrity and dedicated public service.
