Srinagar: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday renewed his demand for the withdrawal of cases registered against youth in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that providing them an opportunity to rebuild their lives is crucial for achieving lasting peace, stability and social healing in the Union Territory.

Bukhari made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the party’s Independence Day celebrations at its headquarters in Srinagar, where he hoisted the national flag in the presence of party leaders and workers.

Expressing satisfaction over the widespread Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir, Bukhari said he wished those who had been called to police stations on the occasion had also been allowed to participate in the festivities.

“They are an integral part of society and should be given a chance to return to normal life with their families,” he said.

Reiterating his demand, Bukhari suggested that cases against youth could be withdrawn subject to the condition that no further complaint is lodged against them for a specified period.

“Giving the youth a fresh start is essential for healing wounds, rebuilding trust and paving the way for a peaceful and stable Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of free online coaching for competitive examinations, Bukhari said the UT government should also consider waiving examination fees for recruitment tests conducted by various agencies to reduce the financial burden on unemployed youth. He suggested that the expenditure could be met from the education budget.

The Apni Party chief also sought adequate compensation for people affected by recent natural calamities in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is painful to see victims suffering after losing their homes and livelihoods. The government must ensure adequate support and assistance to those affected,” he said.

Bukhari also called for community participation in relief efforts, saying the region’s tradition of charitable giving could be harnessed to support disaster-hit families.

“When tragedy strikes, we should stand together as one society. No family affected by a natural disaster should be left to face its suffering alone,” he added.
