Srinagar: Senior police officers on Monday reviewed security preparedness and law and order arrangements in Sopore and Awantipora ahead of Independence Day celebrations, with a focus on strengthening security measures, intelligence sharing and inter-agency coordination.
In Sopore, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir Range, Vinod Kumar chaired a meeting with officers of Sopore Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other security agencies to review preparations for August 15 celebrations.
The meeting discussed security deployment, area domination, access control, traffic management and coordination among agencies. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore briefed the meeting on security measures already in place, including intensified checking, frisking, patrolling and operational preparedness.
The DIG directed officers to strengthen security arrangements at vulnerable locations, intensify patrolling and checking, and ensure timely intelligence sharing. He stressed maintaining heightened vigilance while minimising inconvenience to the public.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javaid Iqbal Mattoo chaired a security and law and order review meeting at the District Police Office, Awantipora.
Attended by officers of the police, Army and CAPFs, the meeting reviewed the overall security and law and order situation in the district. Discussions focused on strengthening the security grid, maintaining peace and ensuring preparedness to deal with emerging security challenges.
The DIG emphasised close coordination among security agencies, enhanced area domination and proactive measures to prevent attempts to disturb public order. Officers were directed to maintain a high level of alertness and ensure prompt and coordinated responses to any security or law and order challenge.
SSP Awantipora briefed the meeting on the prevailing security situation and measures being taken to strengthen security arrangements in the district.
According to police, officers in both districts reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peaceful and incident-free Independence Day celebrations.
