Srinagar, July 27: The District-Level National Committee on Drug Law Enforcement (NCORD) on Monday reviewed the progress of the intensified anti-drug drive in Srinagar, with officials reporting the arrest of 238 alleged drug peddlers, attachment of properties worth about ₹103 crore and freezing of 89 bank accounts during the 100-day Jammu and Kashmir Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The review meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Dr Sundeep Chakravarthy, assessed enforcement measures, preventive interventions, rehabilitation efforts and the overall impact of the anti-drug campaign.

Officials informed the meeting that 169 First Information Reports (FIRs) had been registered during the campaign. They said illegal movable and immovable properties linked to alleged drug traffickers, valued at around ₹103 crore, had been attached as part of the enforcement drive, while 89 bank accounts had been frozen during financial investigations.

The meeting was also informed that 101 driving licences, 59 vehicle registration certificates and 70 chemist licences had been suspended for alleged violations related to narcotics. Authorities have also recommended suspension of passports and Aadhaar numbers of several accused under the relevant legal provisions.

Reviewing the campaign, Labroo and Chakravarthy appreciated the coordinated efforts of the civil administration, police and other departments. They stressed the need for sustained intelligence-based operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb substance abuse.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and intensify action against drug peddlers and trafficking networks. He also emphasised the need to combine strict enforcement with awareness campaigns, counselling and rehabilitation measures, particularly for young people affected by substance abuse.

The SSP reiterated the police’s commitment to sustained action against narcotics-related offences in coordination with the civil administration and appealed to the public to assist authorities by reporting drug-related activities.

The meeting was attended by Regional Transport Officer Kashmir Qazi Irfan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Umar Shah, Srinagar Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Nuzhat Khurshid, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, Sub-Divisional Magistrates Irfan Bahadur and Zubair Ahmad, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi-Din, District Social Welfare Officer Mohammad Yousuf and officers from the Excise Department, Drug Control Organisation, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Addiction Treatment Facilities and other departments.
