Rajouri: The Rajouri district administration has intensified relief, rescue and restoration measures following heavy rainfall and flash floods that affected several parts of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Sikarwar visited flood-affected areas to assess the damage, review the situation and interact with affected residents.
The Deputy Commissioner assured the affected families of all possible assistance and directed the concerned departments to ensure timely relief, rehabilitation and restoration of essential services.
To provide immediate shelter to displaced families, the administration has established a Relief and Rehabilitation Centre at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Rajouri. The centre has been equipped with accommodation, food, drinking water, sanitation, medical assistance and other essential facilities. Sharma also visited the centre and directed officials to promptly address the needs of the families taking shelter there.
According to the administration, rescue operations were carried out in different parts of the district with the coordinated efforts of the Revenue Department, Police, the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies. A major rescue operation at Dhangri was supervised on the ground by the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP.
In another operation, a person stranded in the flooded Dandani Nala in Lamberi, Nowshera, was rescued by teams of the Revenue Department, Police and SDRF.
Meanwhile, restoration work has been taken up across the district. Roads blocked due to landslides at several locations have been cleared to restore connectivity and facilitate the movement of emergency services and the public.
The administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near rivers, nallahs and other flood-prone areas until the weather improves. It also urged people to follow official advisories and cooperate with the authorities.
