Ramban: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan on Monday inspected restoration work along National Highway-44 and reviewed arrangements for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims accommodated in the district following the temporary suspension of the pilgrimage.
Accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak and other officers, the Deputy Commissioner visited the landslide site at Nashri and other vulnerable locations to assess the situation amid intermittent rainfall and the adverse weather advisory.
He directed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Public Works Department (PWD) and PMGSY to deploy adequate manpower and machinery for the early restoration of affected roads and ensure safe movement on NH-44 and other major routes.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars to remain stationed in their respective jurisdictions, closely monitor the situation, coordinate with line departments and immediately report any incident requiring urgent intervention.
Reviewing the status of essential services, Khan took stock of water and power supply, healthcare facilities, availability of essential commodities and other public utilities. He directed the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted services and remain prepared to deal with any weather-related disruption.
According to the administration, all restoration agencies and essential services have been activated, while the District Control Room is functioning round the clock to monitor the situation and provide assistance.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected facilities at langar camps and Yatri Niwas, Chanderkote, where Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims are being accommodated. He reviewed arrangements for accommodation, food, drinking water, sanitation and medical care, and directed officials to ensure the comfort, safety and well-being of the pilgrims.
He also appealed to the public to follow weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and report any emergency to the District Control Room or the nearest administrative office.
