SRINAGAR: Chief Executive Officer of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) Faz Lul Haseeb on Saturday inspected several historic water channels across Srinagar to assess their condition and evaluate measures for their conservation and restoration.
The inspection covered Kutte Kul, Sonar Kul, Rainawari Kul and other interconnected waterways. According to an official statement, the visit was aimed at assessing the channels’ hydraulic connectivity and their overall condition.
During the inspection, Haseeb reviewed issues including silt accumulation, vegetation growth, encroachments, obstructions and discharge points, and directed officials to carry out detailed technical assessments and documentation of the waterways.
He said the conservation and restoration of Srinagar’s traditional water channels were important for mitigating waterlogging, promoting environmental sustainability and preserving the city’s historic water heritage.
The CEO also stressed the need for coordinated efforts among stakeholder departments to ensure the long-term conservation of the waterways through scientific assessment and planning.
Interacting with local residents, Haseeb appealed to the public to avoid dumping waste into the water channels and cooperate with the administration in maintaining their cleanliness and ecological health.
